Until now, I had only read Kiran Millwood Hargrave's adult book, The Mercies, which I absolutely loved, so I had high hopes for her YA offering, and I was not disappointed. The story was quite captivating, and the prose brilliant. The characterisation was excellent and the characters' voices were clear. Further, I wasn't sure if how the story was going to end before it happened, which was refreshing, and I always appreciate an LGBTQIA+ storyline, and this one felt well measured, and not just a throwaway device. I very much enjoyed this and look forward to reading more.
