Whatever profound thoughts people seem to be extracting from this book did not come my way, and I consider myself a philisophical thinker. This was just a dull read for me and I don't get the hype. I liked Klara, and I liked Rick, but every other character was annoying and frustrating, especially Josie's mother. The way she treats her daughter throughout the book has me wondering why she's even bothering with the Part Four stuff. Not a fan. I figured that was where we were going during the waterfall trip, but still, how insidious. All the setup took forever and then the climax of the story was like??? Nothing really happened or changed. I don't think anyone grew as a character besides Klara and ironically the housekeeper, who eventually recognized her personhood. I say ironically because they are both basically the household staff and treated as lesser by the family. Also it's ironic to me that all the "lifted" kids (besides Josie) treated Klara like an object and the only "regular" kid treated her like a person. I hated that scene with the other teens. Klara shutting down and not saying anything when that one boy started grabbing her and threatening to throw her was chilling. I understand why Josie clammed up and didn't defend her, but that doesn't mean I have to like it lol. Also what the heck was the cootings machine? We never really get an answer. All the Sun stuff was cute tho, I really enjoyed that part of the story. Klara is a bean and deserves better than basically being ignored the entire book. All in all, a boring--if well written--read for me.
