this isn't the worst book i've had to read for school but it was still boring. i think the beginning was interesting and it kept me hooked at the beginning. however, the whole mysterious what-the-fuck-is-going-on vibe was only fun for the first few chapters and then it just got sooo boring because you just never find out ANYTHING about pre-gilead or what happened to change it so drastically or why it happened or who made it happen. the entire book was so fucking ambiguous that i was just like HUH?? idk it just did not keep my interest at all; it was the same shit over and over again, either offred sitting in her room dreaming about the past, or weird meetings with the handmaids where someone gets hanged or something. there were some really beautiful and devastating passages in the book, so the writing was definitely good, but i didn't vibe with the plot at all so hence the 2 stars.
