So I have thoughts! This books was kind of a rollercoaster. I was really enjoying it at first, but it slowed down. so. much. I also feel like the character development was also odd. They were kind of all over the place and it made me have a REALLY hard time connecting with them.
One thing I really loved about this book was the setting and the magic/world. I think the author really fleshed out what this world needed to contain and I really enjoyed that. You get to see a bunch of different areas/kingdoms with varying environments and scenery. It was really fun visualizing everything. The magic was also pretty creative especially as it related to fated matches. The magic tied into the politics of the world in a pretty smart way which helps you understand the world even better.
I may have some complaints about the pacing and characters. HOWEVER, the ending was flawless. I am so captivated and I CANNOT wait for book two. In the areas book one struggled, I think book two will excel. There is so much opportunity for action and tension and deceit with a crazy plot. I anticipate it being really great.
