I think it was just ok. The twists didn't exactly surprise me, and I felt like a lot of the themes and ideas that were being brought up weren't explored as much as I would have liked them to be. I empathize with Camille's situation and struggles, and I thought she could've been a really interesting point of view for the story. But she just ends up becoming really unlikable. The whole situation with her getting caught up doing drugs with her sister and a bunch of literal children felt absolutely ridiculous to me. The final straw was when she sleeps with a barely 18 year old boy who is currently a primary suspect in the case she is reporting on . Mind you, she is around 30 years old.
Almost all the kids in the story felt completely unrealistic to me. Having a sister who is about the same age as Amma, it just felt like all the kids were written to be as edgy as possible and unrealistically sinister and "adult". The over sexualization of the girls was also really weird and off-putting. It didn't feel like it was there to make a point.
I liked the small town vibes and the stuff with the mom, but overall it felt like I was just reading along waiting for some sort of introspection or revelation that never came to fruition.
