I absolutely adored this book. I happened upon it by chance and got it on kindle for $2. What a fantastic novel. I loved the switching back and forth in time and was so intrigued by both story lines. I didn’t even know that Grace Darling was a real person until I was on the last chapter! It’s a love story, a family saga, and historically filled to the the brim with facts and lessons. I thought about this book while I wasn’t reading and I have a feeling I will be thinking about this book for a while to come. Every character is rich and relatable and so real that you feel like you know them personally. The reason I took off a star was because I felt like the author somewhat dropped the story line with Joseph Kinsella and Matilda’s relationship/friendship. I admire her for not making Matilda’s story a love story, but would have like a little clarity on their relationship at the end of the book.
