Boarded by Love by Toni Aleo

3.0

The story of choreographer / burlesque dancer Claire and hockey star Jude was really sweet; ultra soppy really with a big dose of instalove but Toni Aleo pulled it off really well. This is my first book by this author but now I plan to read everything. I found the story well written and engaging. The high romance worked because I genuinely believed in the characters.

There was a good level of angst in the book, not all of it quite believable. Claire keeps her burlesque dancing a secret which slightly perplexed me. Maybe it's just me, but burlesque is a pretty acceptable dance form to me. I wouldn't go out with someone who wasn't ok with it. They would just feel a bit narrow minded to me. And although i might keep it on the lowdown from college people I wouldn't keep it from someone i loved. So that storyline just annoyed me. I just found myself shouting 'tell him already!' In my head.

I also thought the bit about Jude thinking she was hot, enjoying what she wore and how she danced but then having a problem with other guys looking at her was a bit 1980's. I think we've moved on from that. I just found it annoying. I have no place for it. If you don't want guys thinking your girl is smokin hot then dude, don't go out with someone smokin hot. D'uh!!

Other than that I loved the whole thing. A bit overly sweet but I was just in the mood for it. Jude can be my book boyfriend anytime and I thought Claire was very aspirational and strong. A good read!
