Enjoyed the opening, enjoyed the ending, the middle was a bit of a slog. Not enough of the Darkling… Too many chapters on war preparations and meetings with a collection of unlikeable characters.
Nevertheless, this was nearly a 4 star because Nikolai’s character was unpredictable and entertaining and I appreciated his presence throughout. Poor, poor Genya broke my heart, I loved her in the first and it’s painful to see her suffer.
