Catch and Kill: Lies, Spies, and a Conspiracy to Protect Predators by Ronan Farrow

5.0

Easy Five Stars.
Came here after reading She Said for more info on the espionage carried out by Harvey Weinstein's team and was just blown away by the scale of Ronan Farrow's investigation.
Initially this reminded me of Spotlight, but this book just keeps unpeeling, and the layers keep coming, and I started to think it was more like a Labyrinth from Borges or something.
The tactics used by the shadowy 'Black Cube' to kill off the Weinstein allegations, tail the author himself, are explored in meticulous depth - but the whole thing is absolutely fascinating.

It starts with the meticulous investigation into Weinstein that he did for NBC
(who then got cold feet and dumped the story).
Then he brings the material to a New Yorker article, which won the Pulitzer,
AND throughout he speaks to the personal cost to him of all of this, which was considerable.

Ronan Farrow is the son of Woody Allen and Mia Farrow.
There's a theory that Frank Sinatra is his real dad based on his looks but anyway.
Because Woody Allen married Ronan's (adopted) sister, Woody Allen is both his dad and his brother-in-law (!!).
Mentioning this because Woody Allen allegedly abused Ronan's other sister Dylan Farrow.
The fact that Ronan believes his sister is used against him by Harvey Weinstein as a way to try and discredit him.

I COULD GO ON.
