The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

4.0

Bod is adopted by the folk of the graveyard after his family is murdered by the man Jack. Bod grows and learns and experiences life in the graveyard while life outside is too dangerous for him. He walks the fine line between the living and the dead with his dead parents, his guardian and friends.

I found the writing to be sophisticated for a children's book. It has Neil's voice which is not a bad thing. The characters have several adventures that lead to the same point at the end of the book.

My favourite part involved the Ghoul Gate and the Hound of God. I really enjoyed this book and would pick it up again to read to my children or on a rainy day. There are all the classical messages embedded for children to receive along with characters to love and aspire to.
