Of Black Study by Joshua Myers

Of Black Study examines the legacies and ideas of Black writers and intellectuals who questioned what constitutes thought, logic, science, the political. Their work shows us how to imagine a different world because our ancestors had long done such. Why we don't acknowledge and study these ways is deliberate. Not just due to academic disenfranchisement of Black studies and thought, intentional exclusion of Black history, and a political system that devalues Black lives, but also a Western mode of knowledge built with and on this exclusion. As a student (and an adult), I was never taught to see or think about these things, and Of Black Study pushes me to question my learned idea of what constitutes seeing and thinking.
