jax222 's review for:
Eat, Pray, Love
by Elizabeth Gilbert
I went in looking for a fun summer read and that's what I got. I wasn't looking for (and didn't find) anything groundbreaking, but I had a lot of fun accompanying Gilbert on her spiritual journey.
Criticisms on this text orbit around her wealth, or her 'lack of "actual" issues', the ending on love, or her...'self-obsession' and 'navel gazing'... in a personal recount about her life? Shocking. However I see these to be more ideological clashes than valuable textual criticisms. This is a story about a white, wealthy, flawed woman who makes decisions to better herself. She does this through travel, experiencing and learning from different cultures and a lot of self-reflection.
I love food, I love meditation and spirituality, I love inner work and I love love. I really liked this book.
Gilbert is a wonderful and easy to read writer and Eat Pray Love is a sweet story to read in the sun.
