did the tandem read. I loved everything this book was giving. I don’t understand the Chaol haters. This book brought maximum angst, and I’m obsessed.

The Chaol character growth arc!!!!!! I'm loving this book. Yrene’s growth as well! I didn’t even care that not much plot was happening in the beginning because there was so much character focus in terms of relationship building and development. Yes, heal Chaol’s emotional trauma AND his body at the same time!!!! But the ending….. how much can Chaol go through?!?!?

I genuinely like that so many of the characters in this series have multiple relationships throughout the books. Seeing the impact of their own personal experiences, backgrounds, and personalities on their relationship dynamics is so cool. Chaol and Nesryn’s arc in the book is so well done.
It made sense for them not to work out. I enjoyed seeing that play out and Nesryn standing up for what she wants in leaving with Sartaq.

I think the tandem read really enhanced the experience for this book. Getting information from events in Empire of Storms at the same time as Chaol was cool. It feels like it enhances tension in the books. Even though realistically they don’t overlap plot much, Chaol still got periodic little updates. I also like how reading both books at once ends up with a good mix of character driven plot and action. It feels so well balanced if you can handle so many subplots at once. A big undertaking but worth it.
