Thinner by Stephen King
3.5
dark mysterious tense medium-paced

3.5 ⭐️—Curses, Consequences, and Calorie Deficits.

If Thinner teaches you anything, it’s that you should always double-check who you’re running over with your car. Because if they happen to have a vengeful Romani father, well—good luck keeping your pants up.

I’ll be honest, the beginning dragged a bit. The main guy, Billy, is a smug lawyer who gets away with manslaughter, only to find himself shedding pounds faster than a bad New Year’s resolution. At first, I was like, Okay, get to the point. But then, somewhere along the way, the tension actually started creeping in. The weight loss stops being a curiosity and becomes something much darker. How far will this go? Can it be stopped? Should it? And suddenly, I was hooked.

It’s not my favorite King book—some parts could’ve been trimmed (ironic, huh?)—but when it hits, it hits. The curse, the desperation, the eerie inevitability of it all? Chilling. Not quite top-tier King for me, but definitely better than some of his other mid-tier works. A solid 3.5 stars—like a meal that’s not quite satisfying, but still leaves you thinking about it afterward.
