The Only Guy
by Skylar M. Cates
Another sweet, slow burning romance with some angst thrown in.
There is something about this author's writing style that draws me into the story. Even when nothing particularly exciting occurs, I enjoyed reading about the couple's day to day existence. There is a gentleness and sweetness in the way this story unfolds that charmed me.
I enjoyed the kid brother having a crush on his brother's best friend theme. I loved that Aaron and Jesse had time to reconnect. Their romance wasn't as enjoyable for me as the first book though.
It is unfortunate that both guys' family members are unlikeable or forgettable. That aspect made the book somewhat less than enjoyable. Even Aaron's mom who clearly cares about him was repellent due to her own emotional insecurities. Unlike the first book, the latter part of the book which was a little too angsty and melodramatic for my liking which is strange since the first book was much more melodramatic than this book!
That being said, I really enjoyed the overall story and despite my niggles, I finished the book in one sitting. It was an engaging read.
