This book should’ve been a hundred pages shorter, easy. Honestly, I’m glad I read the later books first, because if I’d started here, I might not have bothered continuing.
Stevie and Zander did work for me though. The chemistry, the banter, the genuine support, that’s what carried the whole thing. The steam was solid, the side characters added some charm, but wow… so much fluff. Too many subplots fighting for space, none of them developed enough to really matter. And if I had to hear “I just want to be chosen” one more time, I was ready to throw the book. Repetition everywhere, lots of telling instead of showing, which made the characters come off a bit whiny even though their backstories had real weight.
Shame, really. There’s a strong, heartfelt romance here, it just got buried under all the extra. With tighter editing, this could’ve been great.
Best for: sports romance readers who like banter, steam, and don’t mind a story that takes the scenic route.
