I read this as a kid sometime, and I didn't really get it. And it always bothered me that 1) Boss knows about the eclipse that occurs 13 centuries before he's born, and 2) he could trust this random person that he was in the correct date (only one day off!) and location for it. As an adult, I still can't get past that. But setting that aside, the rest of the book was far more pleasurable than I remembered. The foreword in the Penguin Classic version I have really helped shed light on the state of Clemons' life when he wrote this, and I recommend it. Its a neat little adventure story, if you can get past all the turn of the century slang.
