The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice

5.0

Godddd this book is so good.

A good prequel is one that gives you delicious & captivating context with which to revisit the first story. This book is such a juicy prequel/sequel to Interview, Lestat answers so many of the questions you may have had from the first book, sheds light on the truth of it all, and expands the universe into some of the best fantasy/fiction ever.

And Anne Rice, omg Anne Rice. Like if I could be a fly on the wall or have read her thoughts when she wrote this book because these characters are something else man. So amazingly well-characterized and the queerness within this book???! Like how did she think of this shit from the 70’s to 1985!? There’s instances of modern, like 21st century modern, ideas on queerness & gender in this book that really blew me away. (But simultaneously hooked me in lol) I have to give credit to her genius with this book.

It’s just so much delicious nuanceeeeeee omg. Nuanced story, nuanced philosophy, just really good shit!! Exactly what makes good gothic horror.

And lastly:
Gabrielle de Lioncourt, the first transmac absentee father, I salute you.

I hope the tv-show does you justice.
