Pax by Sara Pennypacker
4.0

I have hopes that one year I will read the Newbery Award winner before the book wins the award. At the recent Public Library Association conference, there was a book signing by Sara Pennypacker, and the line for her book and autograph, wrapped around several aisles. And I’ve read lots of mid-year predictions that like this one’s chances, so I gave it a try.

Animal stories are not my favorite. But this one was a bit different with the story being told from alternating perspectives of the foxes and the humans. While I found the ending abrupt (I didn’t mind how it ended—I just wanted more), and the moral of the story was pretty heavy handed, the book was touching nonetheless.

Will it win the award next year? Animal stories have a good track record so maybe this is my year.
