Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less
by Greg McKeown
Well - this was a non-essential book. Save your time for something essential.
If you are a CEO or own your own business or don't answer to others then there MAY be some sound business advice. If you are low on Maslow's hierarchy of needs then you probably don't have control of the work and life-work balance activities discussed. I recently retired from 3 decades as Sr Director at a huge Fortune 500 company. Sure, you could try some of these things, but many would-be career limiting. They would. Full stop.
If your management fills your day with meeting after meeting because they believe in group decisions and more "governance" - good luck not showing up or saying no. The essential decision there is to leave the job. SO if that feels like an option then this book works.
I retired early and can now practice essentialism. It works great in retirement. But many people low to the middle on the corporate food chain, or in service sector careers. - ha ha ha. Of course they aren't the one's paying Mr. McKeown consulting fees.
Just pass on this book
But in retirement - ditch the non-essential for sure.
