As if the major plot twist at the end of Book 1 wasn’t enough of a twist, more and more twists and fantasy trope subversions continue in this second book, all while Will gains more of Sarcean’s memories from the past and begins to learn more of his powers, all while trying not have his friends discover his secret. Of course, this elaborate house of cards begins to tumble down, disparate pieces connect; I was on the edge of my seat as I read how everything unraveled. In the last two charters, there is a wonderful moment of cathartic release for Will’s pain when James is there for him, choosing him when he nobody does, only to have that hope dashed to pieces when he realises that James is wearing the collar . The angst is seriously over the top, and I can’t wait for the third book’s release.
