Road of No Return: Hounds of Valhalla MC by K.A. Merikan

2.75

This is definitely a gritty motorcycle club romance if that's what you're looking for.
Although the author writes a lot of similar stories, this one is darker and more shocking in some ways than others I've read from them so far.
We follow our two MMC's, Stitch-A member of Hounds of Valhalla MC who's a closeted gay man with anger issues and Zak-An out gay tattoo artist who moves to town. They meet when Zak comes to the club, which is apparently the only social spot in the small town, to drum up business for his new shop. When Stitch takes him up on a free offer for a tattoo to cover up his now ex-wifes name things get hot an heavy between them immediately.
We get a lot of Stitch realizing he's really been gay his whole life pretending to be straight mixed with some latent self internalized homophobia in the beginning. Zak also struggles with going back into the closet to protect Stitch and how that effects him mentally. These both feel like wholly realized characters, even if I couldn't stand how Stitch reacted to some things I can appreciate how "real" his struggle with himself was.
Stitch is abusive. To the point where I really hated him at first for how he treated Zak, but, I'll excuse that for the author offering us a gritty character that has flaws. I CAN NOT get over Stitch
killing Cox
. There was no real reason and I was hoping to get more of their story in a future book.
Zak's need to top regardless of how uncomfortable it made Stitch was a blaring red flag as well. I felt it was Stitch capitulating to something he didn't want to keep Zak happy and Zak should have recognized that. Regardless of the outcome and Stitch enjoying it, it just felt so ick to be in Stitch's POV and feeling himself almost shut down and force himself to do it.
The ending felt like a throw away. I'm hoping the Hounds or Stitch and Zak pop up later in the series and maybe we get a bit more of their story. I'd really like the Hounds to just be burned alive and go to Hell, just sayin'.
Overall a decent story that the plot just felt a bit disjointed at times.
