A quick Halloween/fall read. Glad I was able to check it out after a friend's recommendation.
I'm a bit mixed on the writing style; while I liked the imagery the author used, the way some sentences were worded when we switched between characters felt abrupt.
I liked how the information was fed to us throughout the story, though I have mixed feelings on Pete's disbelief of the October Boy prior to the Run, and I felt the conversation in the movie theater could've been better handled. But I think this being a novella rather than a full book hindered that moment because of the pace of the story.
Overall, I enjoyed the concept and where the story lead. It was a quick read, though not very memorable. Again, I wish it was fleshed out into a novel. It would've helped explain more about the town's ritual, and I felt the themes would've been fleshed out better. That said, I really liked how rumors were incorporated in the story.
