I am forever changed. Wild and Wrangled is a masterpiece. Cam and Dusty have had a piece of my heart since we first met them, and to finally read their love story was the honour of a lifetime.
My heart ached for them but celebrated in their obvious chemistry and the fact that, even scared, neither of them really fought it that much! They are inevitable. They always were.
What I love about this book is how to the point it is. There’s the odd subplot sprinkled in but, in all, it is just Cam and Dusty, then and now. There is no pretence. No mystery we need to solve or external drama that needs fixing. Nobody’s sick or dying or moving away. It’s just Cam and Dusty, in the same place again, physically and, eventually, emotionally. No bells and whistles. No distractions. Just love.
There are so many standout moments from this book, but here are a few of my favourites:
- Dusty at the gala
- Fruit Roll-Ups and Pawn Stars
- REPORT CARDS ON THE FRIDGE
- “Thank you for coming back.”
- Gus’ speech (and just any time anyone acknowledged how hard it must have been for Dusty to find out Cam was pregnant)
- Wes’ speech
- Aggie at the soccer match
- Riley in every scene
- Amos looking at the sky
And two of the greatest quotes of all time:
- “I’d know that voice anywhere. If I had slipped into a coma, it would wake me up. If I was six feet under, I’d dig myself out of the grave just to be closer to it, which was dramatic and startling and tragic and stupid. But it was true.”
- “You’re a privilege, Cam. Being in your presence is a goddamn honour.”
I am so emotional right now, because the series is over but, more than that, because Cam and Dusty got everything they deserved. It hurts when soulmates are parted but nothing feels better than the acknowledgement that, sometimes it’s the right thing and fate will always bring you back together if you really are meant to be.
Thank you, Lyla Sage, for this genuinely beautiful creation. Wild and Wrangled will be with me forever.
