A Wizard of Earthsea
by Ursula K. Le Guin
slow-paced
I had mixed feelings about A Wizard of Earthsea. I enjoyed some of the buildup with the main character, even though his early brashness, temper, and ego were definitely frustrating. I also liked some of Ged’s friendships, which felt genuinely warm and meaningful. However, the story often felt meandering, and the ending landed a bit flat for me. This world and character had the potential to be fascinating, but it ultimately felt a little lackluster. I suspect the book leans more toward the philosophical, though in a subtle, understated way. If you know that going in and are fine with the premise, it might work for you—otherwise, I think it’s one you could easily skip.
