Guardian of the Drowned Empire by Frankie Diane Mallis

5.0

I'm guess you could say that I'm farther than Lethea for this series! I had the opportunity to read it as an ARC in exchange for a review, but I cannot wait to purchase it and reread it again as a final version. I was absolutely engrossed in the world of Lumeria once again, and I could not put this book down, just like the first!

Frankie has mastered filling us in on the details of the first book of the series, Daughter of the Drowned Empire, without boring us. My sieve-like mind is thankful for that, but so much of the world of Lumeria has stuck with me. However, if you're reading this review without having read the first book in the series, go read it. Stop reading this review. Pick up Daughter of the Drowned Empire. You will not regret it!

Hello there, character development, it's wonderful to see you happening and happening FAST. It's hard to even call it "character development" because Frankie's characters naturally unfold and grow throughout this book. Characters and plots advance much faster than I was expecting, and I fully support it. Characters showed themselves, their backstories, their hauntings, and their secrets. Oh and the secrets are SO GOOD. I'll leave it at that.

Lyr's growth has been phenomenal. I am here for it, and I cannot wait to see where it goes next. She is fierce. Buckle up.
Rhyan is well...still my favorite and then some. I learned a ton about him this book, and I loved each second of it. Also I enjoyed spending more time with secondary characters, especially her sisters Meera and Morgana. Tristan is still around too. We also get to see more of Lyr's friends, Haleika and Galen. And of course, FUCKING Mercurial and the Imperator. I won't say any more.

I am eager and excited where the series will go as things are, to say the least, left in an interesting state at the end of this book. I have truly fallen in love with these characters and this magical world, and I highly recommend this book. Thank you for sharing your world of Lumeria and creativity with us again, Frankie!
