All Out: The No-Longer-Secret Stories of Queer Teens Throughout the Ages
by Saundra Mitchell
The thing with anthologies is that because all these stories are by different authors from different genres (historical, fantasy/sci-fi, contemporary…), from different historical periods, tackle different topics and the writers all have distinct voices and styles from one another (which isn’t a bad thing. It’s actually a great thing because everyone can find something they like from this anthology since everyone’s reading tastes are different. I applaud this collection of short stories and thank every person who took part in writing them and publishing them. It is truly a gift.) this meant that I wasn’t attached to every single short story however.
Many stood out to me, like the very first one, Rona by Anna-Marie McLemore because of its fairy tale-like writing style which I am obsessed with (it heals my inner child). It was also a beautiful story to begin with and in prepared to read everything this story’s author has ever written.
It wasn’t the only one I enjoyed by far : others include but are not limited to
-New Year by Malinda Lo
-Healing Rosa by Tehlor Kay Mejita
-The Coven by Kate Scelsa
Unfortunately my short-term memory is terrible and I can’t remember all the titles for all the short stories I enjoyed. I tried to go back to the start of the book to try and find the ones I did but since I’m reading it in e-book format it’s complicated for me to find them all.
Regardless, please know that I had a wonderful time reading this anthology overall and that it has made me discover some amazing authors whose other books I will make sure to add to my TBR !
I highly recommend reading this.
When I’m rereading this book or just reading another anthology I’m going to have to take little bullet point notes to my future review-writing self so I can remember things. Silly me
