Nuclear War: A Scenario
by Annie Jacobsen
challenging
dark
informative
sad
tense
fast-paced
This is a minute by minute description of the actions taken by governments and the effects occurring after the launch of a nuclear bomb from North Korea towards the USA.
You could call it doom mongering but Jacobsen has used testimonials from experts to compile the details of what happens after the detection of a launch, detonation and consequences felt over the first 90mins and then thousands of years later. I don't think it's a spoiler to say it doesn't end well.
It's a fascinating book. At times it feels like a movie script with stage instructions but I learned a lot.
The author narrates the audio book. I'd recommend speeding it up to 1.1 times, otherwise it sounds like the author believes each sentence is an absolute revelation which is a bit maddening.
