i desperately want more people to know about and read this book. it completely and utterly broke my heart. Wagamese's writing is so clear, poignant, and reverberates through every page to the point where you can't look away or stop reading or thinking about what you just read. Saul is taken from his family and home and placed in a school that seeks to strip him of his identity, name, and understanding of himself. he finds some respite when he discovers hockey and creates a new world for himself. however, he must reconcile with the injustices done to him and his family to move on. a devastating read but filled with hope and belief in a better world, i could not recommend this one more.
