Wow. Just WOW. I absolutely ADORED this book!
Honeyman tackles the theme of loneliness in such a powerful and thought-provoking way, using characters that are both believable and loveable. It’s a story that really makes you think twice about making assumptions, which I have to admit even I did of the main character, Elenor, at the very beginning. The writing style introduced me to a whole other world of characterisation that I hadn’t before considered, and I couldn’t help but smile, sigh and weep along with the characters all the way through. It was touching without being overly-sentimental and a total rollercoaster of a plot. I loved the way that Honeyman used peculiar language to craft the character, plus I learned some new funky words: ‘sybarite’ anyone?
While it might not suit a reader who prefers action and fast-paced plots, those book awards are totally deserved!
