House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas
5.0
I just want to say how utterly timeless her writing is to me. It doesn’t matter that I eat sleep and breathe this fandom or that I have reread this book now multiple times it’s still hits just as hard I’m still excited. There are still things that get me screaming & kicking my feet and slamming my book. There is a certain quality to Sjm that… I don’t know how else to say it. She is amazing and she did create magic with her words. These books are just dead trees, and glue and some ink and yet they are so much more.
Now this reread was to try and put the puzzle pieces that post house of sky and breath left so if you haven’t read house of sky in breath, don’t continue reading.
I am almost speechless & most definitely Mindblown to the amount of attention to detail that has gone into this book. It felt like a marathon for my brain because I was learning so much and cramming so much information and pulling from all of her other books - I’m trying to remember everything in the SJM universe to make sure that I’m catching all these parallels and theories. Though the funny thing is, I was more in awe of how seamlessly she placed her breadcrumbs in Easter eggs of folklore and mythology and ancient history, that sometimes I forgot what I was supposed to be doing.
I learned so much by going through and methodically looking up all these nouns that she had placed that ended up going back into mythology, folklore an ancient history throughout the world. And it reassured me that the Easter egg hunt that we’ve been on in all 15 of her books is validated because I do full heartedly believe that if you see something in Sjm it’s probably something because of how intentional she picked what went in.
