"Inevitably, invariably, eventually you will discover you are unprepared to make an informed choice. When in doubt, say, Yes. Yes is the eternal passport. Yes is the everlasting coin."

This book is both grimy and gorgeous, both fever-dreamy and sharply lucid, a tale of adventure and a study of character, full of incredible prose written by a poet.

My enthusiasm waxed and waned several times while reading it, but now that I can step back and take in the whole made from the parts, I'm slightly in awe of it all, even the bits that didn't grab me while I was in it.
