irishkelso 's review for:
Orange: The Complete Collection, Volume 1
by Ichigo Takano
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
This was my first manga ever (with a little background in Anime), and I really enjoyed the premise. I wasn't sure what to expect with character development in this story, but I found the characters are definitely the aspect that I enjoy the most (along with the adorable friendships that appear throughout).
The story centers on Naho when she receives a letter from her future self. It holds a warning that a new boy will attend her school and eventually ends up committing suicide. If you are sensitive or triggered by suicide, I might stay away from this particular story. It's not handled in a poor or graphic way, but it is consistently mentioned throughout each issue.
Naho works with her group of friends to grow close to the student, Kakeru, throughout the school year and make him happy. I think there are a lot of important issues touched upon that I wasn't expecting and despite the heavy subject matters introduce in the plot synopsis, it still holds a heart-warming, light atmosphere throughout.
I definitely would recommend to any people interested in manga or the storyline in general. It was intimidating consider how larger the complete first volume is, but it really flies by.
