I found it an interesting reading experience for its place in literary history, the link between old folk tales and modern fantasy literature, rather than an enjoyable read.
It reads like a tidied up, poetically told, Celtic fairy tale - these can have a rather disjointed feel, like a dream, while this has a more stable narrative structure.
