Call Us What We Carry
by Amanda Gorman
This was my first time reading a full book of poetry.
I didn't rush it, I took my time trying to consider each word and each line, because I think this is how you're supposed to enjoy poetry. And as I think it's perfectly normal, some verses spoke to me more than others. I also learned of poetry styles I didn't know of, thus getting out of the schemes I learned in high school. I really appreciated this other side of the experience.
I soon realised, though, that reading so many poems on just one topic is not something for me. Although there were a few different themes throughout the book, I simply got bored of reading more than 4 or 5 poems on the same thing.
If you're into poetry, I think it's a good book. You might also like it if you're not into it, as I did. Can't say for sure though, poetry is, in my opinion, a very personal experience.
