This was a great story. I remember seeing this book several years ago and I am happy that I could get to it at last!
This was such an extraordinary telling of a tale - a tearjerker in several passages! I could sense my spirit soar at times of lightness and merriment before the author pulled a lift & drop manoeuvre, plunging it to depths of melancholy and sadness. The characters seem relatable albeit the strong personality bias the author creates with some of the antagonists.
I do not believe in generalisations. But by following mainstream western media narrative, I have come to associate with Afghans and Iranians as extremely traditional/ religious group. It did not take much time in the book to destroy such generalisations.
The Kite Runner is a story that tells how an incident can alter a person's life. It is a chronicle of how true love and human endeavour keeps the world hopeful. There is a visceral moral compass and immeasurable grit to all the central characters. It takes a right mix of cowardice and courage to keep them alive & hunting for a way in the fog that seems to engulf their spirit in often the most happiest junction of their lives.
I did hear the audio version of the story. Interestingly it my first time listening to an audiobook read by an author. While the pace was a bit slow to my liking, I found it to be very good.
