Luciano by Eva Winners

5.0

Luciano is a standalone and book #1 in the Belles & Mobsters series. I loved, loved reading The Den of Sin! And I was super excited to read Luciano after reading the short preview/chapter. Luciano is a "Ruthless King" in the underworld/criminal world, and Grace is his enemy's niece. It's a lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers and forced marriage romance. In the first few chapters, there's quite a bit of information to digest all at once, and it might be confusing to grasp the situation, I certainly was. But I enjoyed how the plot unravelled as everything slowly fell into place. Especially when the pace of events picked up in the last few chapters! The building up of all of the characters' arcs is incredible! Eva Winners' plots are both character and plot driven.

Grace isn't a meek character; she is smart, strong and resilient. Not once, but twice, her life was turned upside down! And she is well aware of her predicament situation; Grace is hoping to get out of the situation unscathed. It broke my heart to see Grace's desperation. Even though she was so torn, Grace had no choice. She had to execute her plan to keep her loved ones safe. It might have been a forced marriage but, Grace fell in love with her husband. Despite what has happened, she can't seem to stop loving him. And Luciano can't deny the fact that he still wants his wife. And yes, Luciano is your typical macho alpha male: jealous and possessive.

Luciano might be smart and perceptive but, it took him a while to *really* looking at the situation in front of him. I mean, he couldn't put two and two together; it was like staring straight into a mirror! Couldn't he see the resemblance?! But nevertheless, my heart still melted after seeing his interactions with a certain someone. And let's not forget their "lover's quarrel"! Luciano and Grace were constantly bickering! Grace easily got annoyed and flustered with Luciano actions, and Grace got under Luciano's skin. Ahh... I just love reading dark mafia romances; it's one of my guilty pleasures. And as I read a new book from Eva's work, it is impossible to decide which one is my favorite! (I'm such an indecisive person, it's so hard to choose!) And from the work I read so far, I instantly get hooked, unable to put it down! Can't wait to read Nico!

When Luciano and Grace first met, sparks flew between them. The events leading them to wed was unconventional: a forced marriage, Grace is leverage against her family. In the beginning, Grace didn't want this marriage but, she couldn't complain. She was looking for a way out from her uncle's cruel clutches. Everything was going so well in their marriage until it didn't. Luciano thinks Grace betrayed him, but that's not true. Fast forward to three years later, Luciano has been searching for Grace; she disappeared, like a ghost they can't locate her. With a new identity in a foreign country, Grace finally got her life back on track. But her new peaceful life is about to be disrupted because Luciano found her, and she kept something or more like someone from him.
