House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas

5.0

This has been on my TBR for a little while but I kept putting it off first because I didn't own it and then when I finally got a copy I kept putting it off because of its size and because for some reason I keep putting off reading Sarah J. Maas' books even though I know I am going to love them. Destiny has now gotten me to read the entire Throne of Glass series and and this book by buddy reading them with me. I can now confidently say that Sarah J. Maas is officially a new favorite author for me.

I initially started by reading this one physically and I was struggling to get into it. I got 4 chapters in when I decided to get the audiobook of it so I could listen while following along in the book and that was definitely the way to go for me because once I started over with the audiobook I was hooked.

It is a little slow going at first because we get a lot of world building but let me tell you once things pick up they really pick up. There are a lot of twists and turns that I never saw coming. There was one thing that happened that I was waiting to happen so when it did happen I was very happy about it. There's a romance in this book but it doesn't take over the story. It's actually a slow building angsty romance and I loved everything about it. This book had me on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what was going to happen next.

This book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger nothing major but it did leave me really wanting to read book 2 which I will be doing with Destiny in July.
