Birthday Girl
by Penelope Douglas
3.5
Okay, first of all, you need to know that Pike is 38 and Jordan is 19. Not only that, Pike is actually the father of Jordan's boyfriend.
Yeah, I know, controversial, taboo, whatever. So if that bothers you, don't pick up this book.
But surprise, surprise, I like it.
Why only 3.5 then? Well, there were a few things I didn't like. Not the plot, just how the men in this book seem to look at girls/women like as if they're all nothing but a piece of meat. That bothered me. And some misogynistic remarks.
The characters are definitely flawed. Sometimes, it's annoying how Jordan says she's not a girl but acts exactly like one. Relatable tho, I was probably the same when I was 19. Acting so cool because you're not like any other 19-year-old but you were actually the same.
She was petty, but then again, I probably would've done some things she did lol. I like that in the end she realized that she had been letting people treat her like sht and she did something about it.
But yeah overall, I like it. I will recommend it but manage your expectation as this book is not for everyone.
