This built up nicely. The beginning felt predictable, though well constructed, but as Callie's adventure (too pleasant a word, but alas) continued, I kept finding myself impressed by how efficient and firm she was with her reactions to each new twist, and how she worked alone AND with as many friends as possible, depending on the situation (read: no unnecessary lone-wolfing here just for the sake of excitement for the reader).

I'm excited to see where the second half of the duology goes!
