Pain, Parties, Work: Sylvia Plath in New York, Summer 1953
by Elizabeth Winder
Not only gave The Bell Jar a more detailed context, but gave a glimpse into the struggle for a modern identity for women in the 1950s overall. Not as heavy or dense as other biographies. Organized in a light, almost pithy style with short chapters and boxed-in side-notes. The boxes were much more creative and integrated than footnotes. overall the feel of the book was a bit magazine-like which added to the overall theme of the book.
