A House at the Bottom of a Lake
by Josh Malerman
What would you do if you found a house at the bottom of a lake? Would you dive down to investigate or keep on paddling? Well, Amelia and James decided to check it out. This discovery turns into obsession and adrenaline for these 17-year olds in the height of summer. ⠀
⠀
I was gifted this by NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - thank you!⠀
⠀
This is the first Josh Malerman novel that I have ever read. Malerman is also the author of “Bird Box.” ⠀
⠀
I wasn’t very impressed with this story, and I HATE saying that- I really do. Any questions that I had about the plot never got answered, and this novel helped me realize that I’m not a fan of “water horror.” If that kind of thing is something that you’re in to, then I recommend this book. It was a quick read; I finished it in 24 hours between everyday life. ⠀
⠀
The way Malerman writes is different, so it was nice to see that change of pace. I could not get over the buildup of the story twist to then feel like it was just a small ripple in a lake (pun intended). Just didn’t live up to my expectation, and that’s okay! It may be a favorite to someone else, but just not to me.
