I would not say this is a romance. While there are glimpses of love throughout and the love of Heathcliff and Catherine are mentioned frequently, I would not say it’s a romance. I would not reach for this book, seeking to fill my heart with earnest love.
Most characters are very unlikeable. They’re annoying, you want to rip your hair out at how disobedient they are. However, the plot is really good. The plot consistencly changes i.e volume - focuses on Heathcliff, Catherine and the Linton’s whereas volume 2 is about the next generation and a lot happens.
Overall, I did enjoy this. It does get slow in a few places. Volume 2 has some useless chapters but would recommend if you like gothic novels
My fav characters are definitely Nelly and Edgar. Edgar was done dirty.
