Tommy Taylor and the Bogus Identity by Mike Carey

5.0

Heaven is closer than you think.
Eyes that are open read the lines
Where closed minds stumble at the brink
In endless darkness, without signs.

Let Tommy tell it his way now.
Let Tommy take the burden up,
Choose sides, choose weapons, keep the vow
Or else refuse the proffered cup.

My story's over. On into
Elsewhere must I make my way.
Trust him, and with your trust renew
Our faith, our fortune and our day.

Yours is the love, this is the hour.
Oh take it, lest your mythic power,
Unused, lie in your soul and sour.

Sometimes when I find a new graphic novel in a charity shop and then find out there a over 10 volumes, I hope that it will disappoint so I don't get sucked into another vast saga.

Unfortunately, that wasn't the case here and I am fully going down the rabbit hole into the story of Tommy Taylor; and what a story it is!

Tommy is the son of the famous author Wilson Taylor and also the inspiration behind the best selling boy wizard series of books. However, since his father's unexplained disappearance he has been left to make a living on the convention circuit, signing books and posing for photos.

At one such convention Tommy is confronted by a seemingly over-devoted fan but it soon turns foul when she accuses him of being a fraud and possets that Wilson Taylor has no son! The news spreads fast and the world seems to be turning against Tommy with baying mobs forcing him to cancel further engagements.

When the fan turns up again, Tommy finds himself having to confront unbelievable truths and facing unknown enemies. His life turned upside down, can a trip to his childhood home in Switzerland reveal the truth?

A wonderful story which weaves the fantasy novels seamlessly into the story and also brings in other famous authors and novels, with quite the appearance from [a:Rudyard Kipling|6989|Rudyard Kipling|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1550677494p2/6989.jpg]. 5 stars!
