The Seventh Queen
by Greta Kelly
The Seventh Queen was an enjoyable and immersive follow-up to its predecessor, but felt lacking. In some ways this books suffered from second book syndrome. Most of what I loved about the first book seemed to be absent from the sequel. This duology has some riveting characters and solid worldbuilding, but I almost think it would have been better suited as a trilogy. Askia's story feels like a connector. There was too much to attend to at the end, making it so that everything was wrapped up with too nice of a bow. Certain characters' arcs felt stranded and I would have liked to have seen more storylines play out.
Overall: A fun fantasy sequel in a compelling world, but a bit lackluster in its completion of storylines.
