This was a RICH tapestry. It is almost painful for me to NOT rate this 5 stars. The characters were magnificent and exquisitely complicated, just like humans in truly the best way. We see how good and evil is not absolute, we all contain multitudes (though some are most definitely far worse than others). I can’t say whether this was slow or fast paced, it meanders throughout time but there was never any slog or slowdown in the plot. One of the characters is one of the BEST I have ever read, truly so good.
There is a lot of dark, upsetting content in this book, I am not kidding. I couldn’t rate 5 stars because the author chose to write gratuitously sexual in the depictions of teenage girls’s bodies. This age is when wives were made of teenage girls but it was a choice to write this way. It was also filled with joy, humor, triumphant, love, and vulnerability. Like I said, a RICH tapestry.
