Preacher, Volume 3: Proud Americans by Garth Ennis

3.0

This was a great arc. The entire French connection and the plans of the grail were all well executed. It was a fun read. There is also a backstory of Cassidy, which I hope ties to later parts of the series because like Custer's dad's Vietnam war, it did not work for me. At least the origin story needed to pack a bit more punch like the revelations in just a few issues before that.

This was first published in 1997. When I factor in that, it surely comes out as gold. a bulimic sadist, deadpan fat villain is not new in 2022, but it may indeed be something in 1997.

I think the French language connection should have been explored a bit better. As much time as the book puts in build-ups, it fails to deliver crescendos of that calibre. Especially how the bad guys meet their ends need a bit more finesse is what I felt.

So like the previous two, it packs a punch. Its enjoyable mid-section is what I cherish about this series.
