The Fever by Megan Abbott

4.0

Ironically, I read two books within the last two months with similar premises but very different outcomes. The Dreamers was the other novel. It felt like two writing students assigned to write a story about an unidentifiable plague that wreaks havoc on a town and how the community and its residents handle it. Getting to read them both is the best part. They're so different, though.

This one is frenetic with a school thrown into hysteria and plays dramatic situations between teenagers to the hilt. Some make very questionable choices that in some cases seem to arise from no real motivation, just silly yet dangerous ones. Entertaining story with plenty of twists and turns that I've come to expect from the author. She takes a very topical and mildly controversial topic and turns it on its head. She almost delves into the supernatural in this one, and it has many mysterious moments.
