A genuinely spooky story that showcases King’s early talent. What sets Salem’s Lot apart from typical vampire stories is its incredible scope - instead of focusing on one or two vampires, we watch an entire town slowly transform. The scale of destruction from a single vampire is both terrifying and innovative for the genre. I wasn’t expecting to witness the birth of a whole vampire community.
While not King’s finest work, it’s definitely entertaining and breaks new ground in vampire fiction. Fair warning though - some sections get genuinely dark, especially involving child abuse.
