Interesting intro, missing husband and a step daughter who hates you. But after that Hannah is really dumb. She’s spontaneous, her actions don’t make sense. Travel to Austin Texas hoping her step daughter will remember events when she was really young. She really takes a gamble on it while evading the STATE MARSHAL who tries to help her. I really dislike Hannah. She’s a calm person but she gets an attitude with the people helping her sometimes. Really rude. And her step daughter! Everyone walks on eggshells around her like a ticking time bomb. Yes she’s a 16 year old but it’s a trope that all teenagers are volatile and irrational. The book was long drawn out family affair and not a thriller. It’s just Hannah takes a gamble on everything and does spontaneous stuff and everything falls into place when everything could’ve been explained by the state marshal. I felt like I wasted my time.
The ending was just selfishly stupid. Hannah chooses life without Owen without her step daughters input. She really took a gamble on that, thinking she knows Baileys grandfather . The marshal said he’s a terrible man and he will kill Owen someday but she’s like “but he has a heart he loves his granddaughter “ she never even met the man only heard stories about how terrible he is
